Maya: Good morning, Xenia, and happy Saturday. It's October third, twenty twenty-six, and this is your Xenia Morning Briefing. Devon: I'm Devon. Maya: And I'm Maya. Coming up: a gorgeous fall week ahead, what's up in tonight's sky, a busy weekend around town, and three local stories you should know. Devon: Let's start with the weather, because if you like crisp October days, this week is for you. Maya: Today, Saturday: high of sixty-seven, low of forty-eight, zero percent chance of rain. Breezy at times with winds around fourteen miles per hour — perfect sweatshirt weather. Devon: Sunday warms a touch: high of seventy, low of forty-seven, still zero percent chance of rain and light winds. Maya: Monday: high of sixty-six, low of forty-six, dry. Tuesday: high of sixty-nine, low of forty-four — the coolest morning of the week, so you might scrape a little frost off the windshield if your car sits out. Devon: Then it warms up nicely. Wednesday: high of seventy-six, low of forty-nine. Thursday and Friday both hit seventy-seven, with lows in the mid-fifties. And still — essentially no rain in sight all week. One percent chance Friday, that's it. Maya: So: cool, crisp mornings, mild afternoons, and dry all the way through. A classic Greene County October. Devon: Now the night skies. Sunset tonight is at seven fourteen, and it's properly dark by eight forty-four. Maya: The moon is in its last quarter, about forty-six percent lit, and it doesn't rise until twelve forty in the morning. So the evening sky is moonless — great for stargazing, especially with these clear, dry skies. Devon: Saturn is up in the southeast after dark, about twenty-nine degrees above the horizon. No space station passes tonight, but with no moon and no clouds, it's a fine night to just look up. Maya: Plenty going on around town today. The Great Ohio Toy Show, fall edition, is at the Greene County Fairgrounds and Expo Center starting at nine this morning — dealers, collectibles, and plenty for the kids. Devon: Xenia's Farmers Market is at Xenia Station from nine this morning as well. Maya: College football: the Central State Marauders host Fort Valley State at McPherson Memorial Stadium at one this afternoon. Devon: And tonight at six, there's a Night of Romance event at Caesar Ford Park. Maya: Looking ahead: the twenty-third annual Chocolate Festival is October seventeenth at the Fairgrounds — mark your calendar. And Christian music fans: Colton Dixon and Micah Tyler play the Schindler Banquet Center on October twenty-second. Devon: Now to the local news. First: a big step for the city and Central State University. The Greene County Board of Commissioners has approved Xenia's petition to annex the Central State campus into the city. Maya: The city has provided utility services to the campus since the nineteen-thirties, and fire and EMS for over fifteen years — but this makes it official. Under the pre-annexation agreement signed in May, the university keeps its campus police force and handles its own roads and utilities, while the city provides water, sewer, fire, and EMS as standard municipal services. Devon: The numbers: the city's two-and-a-quarter percent income tax would apply to campus employees and residents, projected to bring in about seven hundred twenty thousand dollars a year in new revenue. City officials estimate a net fiscal benefit of around two hundred sixteen thousand dollars a year. Maya: City Manager Brent Merriman called it, quote, "years of thoughtful discussions" that position both the city and the university for long-term success. Devon: Second story: the old Carnegie Library on East Church Street has a new owner — and a tasty future. Bridget Walker, who owns Sweets Boutique, bought the historic building from the city and plans to turn it into a restaurant and event center. Maya: A fitting second act for one of downtown's landmark buildings. We'll be watching for an opening date. Devon: And third: the Greene Room is back. The award-winning restaurant run by juniors and seniors in the Greene County Career Center's culinary arts program is reopening this week. Maya: If you haven't been, it's one of the best lunch values in the county — student chefs, real-deal training kitchen, and the food consistently punches above its weight. Devon: That's your briefing for this Saturday, Xenia. Enjoy the sunshine and the crisp air — October doesn't get much better than this. Maya: We'll be back tomorrow morning at five with a fresh briefing. Have a great Saturday.
